I think we'd better adopt a realistic and pragmatic approach similar to that adopted by Lau Chin Shek aka Bro Shek.
The democrats are partly to blame for the current state of affairs because they ditched the 2005 amendment proposals and we haven't inched forward even a wee bit in the two elections since the 30/30 division of LegCo seats.
A similar situation will arise when we get closer to 2012. If the democrats refuse to budge again by that time and our constitutional development remains at a standstill after 2012, it wouldn't forbode well for HK in 2017 and 2020.
I hope the democrats will become wiser this time around and not jeopardise our universal suffrage with their well-meaning intransigence 民主企硬。
even if we accept the 2005 40/40 division, most likely the extra 10 seats will be shared by Pan democracts and pro-communist in the ratio of 6 : 4, why we need to give up the principle for only 1 single seat gain, just my 2 cents only
The point is Beijing would have been barred from alleging that we HK folks hadn't made much progress in the direction of universal suffrage 全面普选。 And we could have argued that we'd satisfied to some extent the principle of taking one step at a time 循序渐进。
